Fly into Heraklion: Elounda is 64 km and just over an hour away β east on the national road (VOAK) to Agios Nikolaos, then a quarter of an hour north along the Mirabello Bay. Chania Airport is almost four hours away.

Spinalonga is right in front of you: boats leave from Elounda harbour and from Plaka, ten minutes up the coast. Across the causeway south of the village, the remains of ancient Olous lie under the shallow water. Beyond that, a car turns Elounda from a resort into a base β the frescoes at Kritsa, the Lasithi Plateau, the south coast at Ierapetra and the palms at Vai are all day trips. Elounda is small and easy to drive. The harbour square gets busy when the Spinalonga boats leave, so park a little away from it. Most hotels have their own parking, and the coast roads to Agios Nikolaos and to Plaka are short and scenic.
