You do not have to go anywhere to collect it. We drive the car to your hotel or apartment in Hersonissos, hand you the keys there, and collect it from the same place at the end.

For the resort itself, no — the strip and the beaches are walkable. For everything that makes Crete worth the flight, yes. Lasithi Plateau, Mochlos, the Minoan palace at Malia and the quiet beaches east of Sissi are all under an hour, and none of them has a useful bus.
Yes, and it costs nothing extra. Heraklion Airport is about half an hour west, so if you would rather drive yourself on the last morning, leave it with us at the terminal and keep the €25.
Cars start at €35 a day with insurance and unlimited kilometres included (full cover with zero excess from age 27), plus €25 to bring it to you in Hersonissos. Child seats and a second driver are free. The booking form shows the whole total before you type anything.
Neither. We take no deposit and we do not need a credit card — you pay when we hand you the keys in Hersonissos, in cash or by card. It is the main reason people book with us instead of at an airport desk.

Hersonissos sits on the old national road about thirty minutes east of Heraklion Airport. The road west takes you into Heraklion and Knossos in half an hour; east it runs through Stalida and Malia towards Agios Nikolaos and the gulf of Mirabello, an hour away.
Hersonissos is really two places: the long seafront with the harbour, the bars and the beaches, and the three villages on the hill behind it — Piskopiano, Koutouloufari and Old Hersonissos — where the tavernas look out over the bay, five minutes up by car. The Lychnostatis open-air museum is on the western edge of town, and the Star Beach and Acqua Plus water parks are a few minutes' drive. In the evening the street along the front is crowded and parking there is hard to find; nearly every hotel has its own, and in the hill villages there are spaces at the edge of each one.
