1. The renter must hold a driving licence that is valid for driving in Greece and has been held for at least 1 year. Drivers aged 23 and over rent under standard terms; drivers aged 18-22 may rent subject to the young-driver fee shown at the time of booking.
1a. Licences issued in the EU or EEA are accepted as they are. A licence issued outside the EU is accepted by PaulCar.gr at pickup, but Greek traffic law requires it to be accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit. The renter is solely responsible for holding every document required to drive legally in Greece, and by signing this agreement declares that they do. PaulCar.gr bears no liability for fines, penalties or loss of insurance cover arising from missing or invalid driving documents.
2. Booking and payment. A booking request is confirmed by PaulCar.gr in writing before it becomes binding. Payment is made at pickup, in cash or by card; no deposit and no credit card are required in order to reserve a vehicle. All prices shown include VAT. Optional extras and any delivery charge selected during booking are included in the total shown before the booking is submitted.
3. Delivery and collection. PaulCar.gr delivers and collects the vehicle at the location agreed at the time of booking. Delivery to Heraklion Airport, Heraklion Port and addresses in Heraklion and the surrounding area is free of charge. Delivery to more distant areas and to Chania Airport carries the charge shown during booking, applied once for delivery and again for collection where both take place outside the free area. The renter must be present at the agreed place and time with the documents required under clause 1.
4. Cancellation and changes. A booking may be cancelled at any time before the rental begins, either through the "My booking" page on paulcar.gr or by contacting PaulCar.gr directly. Dates, vehicle and extras may be changed free of charge, subject to availability. Where no payment has been taken before pickup, cancellation is free of charge and no refund arises. Where the rental was paid online by card through paulcar.gr, 50% of the amount paid is refunded to the card used for the payment and the remaining 50% is retained as credit towards a future rental with PaulCar.gr. The credit is valid for 12 months from the date of cancellation and may be used against any future booking within that period; it is not exchangeable for cash and any unused balance expires at the end of the 12 months.
5. The vehicle must be returned on the agreed date, time, and location. Late returns will be charged an additional daily rate.
6. The renter is fully responsible for any traffic violations, fines, or toll charges incurred during the rental period.
7. The vehicle may not be driven on unpaved or off-road surfaces, taken out of the island, or used for racing, towing, or any illegal activity.
8. Smoking inside the vehicle is prohibited. A cleaning fee of €150 will be charged for violation.
9. The renter must return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pickup. Otherwise, a refueling charge will apply.
10. In case of an accident or breakdown, the renter must immediately contact PaulCar.gr and the local police. The vehicle must not be moved until authorized.
11. Drivers aged 27 and over have full insurance with zero excess and are not liable for covered damage to the vehicle. Drivers under 27 on basic insurance are liable for covered damage up to an excess of €1,200, unless full insurance was purchased. Damage listed as not covered in the insurance terms remains the renter's responsibility in full.
12. PaulCar.gr reserves the right to terminate the rental agreement and repossess the vehicle if any terms are violated.
13. Personal belongings left in the vehicle after return are the renter's responsibility. PaulCar.gr is not liable for any lost or stolen items.
14. All disputes arising from this agreement shall be governed by the laws of Greece and subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Heraklion, Crete.
15. By signing this agreement, the renter acknowledges having read, understood, and accepted all terms and conditions stated herein.
